Default When did your alternator die?

I have 44K on my stock one and I think it is on its way out. It is cranking over for like 3 seconds before it starts. I hear this is within the alternator death window for the LS1s.

Have you ever changed the battery?

Any change in the volt meter?

I would agree that the battery will be likely to go long before the alternator.

I would load test the battery before buying a new alternator...

Thanks for telling us what the starter does. The car cranks fine for about 3 seconds before firing up. The car has a Walboro 340, ASP pulley, 1000 watt amp with a farad cap and an optima yellow top battery. The battery has about 3 yrs on it. So after the obvious was thought of, maybe the fuel pump isn't keeping pressure in the system after the car is off and I am cranking 3 seconds to build up the fuel pressure. I have noticed the car has been running at 13v since the ASP pulley 2 months ago. This is down from a little above 14v before. The reason I am asking is because a friend had an alternator crap out on him suddenly and he has comprable mods and miles.

I wasn't poking fun, here's what you said:

Topic: When did your alternator die?

have 44K on my stock one (alternator I assume) and I think it (alternator) is on its way out. It (we have to assume "it" is still the alternator, no talk of anything else here) the is cranking over for like 3 seconds before it starts. I hear this is within the alternator death window for the LS1s.

ROFL . . . seriously though, I think you have plenty of time left on both your alternator and starter. They both last roughly 100,000 miles. The battery on the other hand is gettng old, but maybe not in Florida. Here in Utah with the hot/cold 3 years is about it. I'd check on fuel delivery.

Wow.

So, after almost 5 years, did you figure out if it was the alternator or the battery?

57k on original battery and alternator. I would test the battery first, I have seen those optimas go in less than a year, red and yellow tops.
