SLP New headers or ARH?
Hi guys, I'm about to buy headers for my 99 formula, can't decide what header to go with. I want to go catted-y set-up, either American Racing with catted-y, or SLP new design headers. Both these headers seem very similar, and the price is about the same, and if I went American Racing, would it hook into an SLP cat-back exhaust loudmouth 1? Thanks.

Well, the SLP's are nice because you get coating with the price. But, the ARH come with merge collectors and the SLP's do not. The ARH y-pipe is a little better IMO just by looking at it, but I've never handled either of them in person.
The price is a moot point since they're roughly the same. Ask yourself what you'd rather have: coating or merge collectors. Based on your answer, make your decision.

I have SLP with Catted y-pipe into SLP LM1 and It sounds good to me. It is very loud, but I like it. As far as making a decision, I would do as the OP said. Stainless with ceramic coating or the merge.

Thanks for posting, I was wondering if you have any sound clips of your setup? I'm just wondering how much louder your car got from when you had your loudmouth 1, and when you added your SLP new headers. Thanks.

There are videos of it. I went from stock to cutout to SLP headers/cats/ypipe/cutout/stock ws6 catback to Full SLP exhaust. But on my 98 SS I had stock manifolds/cats/ypipe with loudmouth and loved it. My WS6 setup is quite a bit louder than the SS.

I had ARH catted LT's and a TSP rumbler which is basically the loudmouth. It sounded like ****. Way too raspy and loud. It only sounded good idling and above 4k RPMS. Your probably going to want a regular muffler on the system to clean up the sound, like the hooker or magnaflow catbacks.

I'm gonna say ARH with either system with the loudmouth it's gonna be LOUD. You could always put a bullet muffler in the LM. If you need help or have any questions shoot me a PM

I am uncertain of difference in LM1 and LM2, but I had the original LM for my formula with Kooks headers and catted y, and it sounded like a post above, awesome at idle, but at some parts at WOT would just be way to raspy and was EXTREMELY loud especially if you got a manual and letting it wind down. LOL
I'm definitely gonna go with ARH as soon as the $ comes available.

I had the loudmouth 1 with the new SLP Y without headers, then I installed the ARH with their catted Y into the loudmouth 1 which in my opinion took out the rasp and drone that so many complain about. I love the ARH with their catted Y. This thread I'm posting for you was my thread in how pleased I was and am with the quality of the ARH. There are 2 sound clips soon as the headers were installed, and 2 sound clips going down the road while inside the car. I was not at wot, and shifting was done easy.

The fit & finish on the ARH's is second to none...as for the SLP's, well they had to 'improve' on their original horrible/low-hanging/lengthy install header design.
Customer service is a huge attribute as well, when was the last time you seen SLP posting???
Personally, I find most of SLP's stuff wayyy over priced and much better products can be found for the same or less out of pocket
