Default How do you get two pipes apart after being clamped together

I've got a tsp true dual system I've got to ship and some of the pipes are stuck together. I really need to get it apart to ship it. What is the best way to do this? Would heating it do any good? I thought about cutting a slit in the pipe to try and relieve the pressure so it will come off but I hate to cut on it.

Any ideas?

The best way to do it is to heat the pipe and wiggle/pull until it comes free. But this will most likely require a real torch, not one of those Bernz-o-matic propane jobs. Good luck with it.

^^^ What he said! SS after clamped will cause a buldge in that area and is very difficult to seperate. I know....i just tried to seperate my catback i-pipe over the axle. I ended up cutting it off and replacing it. I put a SS wrap on it this time instead of the clamp.

I had to cut mine off and replace it. The second time I just cut slits and had some one weld it back.

I had this issue with a y-pipe before and after hours of trying and using the torch, I finally cut a slit in it and managed to get it apart that way

I've always had to cut a slit in it. Sucks. Thats why I switched to welding flanges where I need to have it separate, or using those copper belt things instead of u-clamps.

Ive always been able to get pipes free with twisting. Just have a buddy hold on one side, you on the other and wrench them in different directions back and forth until they wiggle free. Of course they might need PB blaster or similar things if they have been on there for a while.
