Default D585 Truck Coil Question

I have a couple sets of used truck coils that I would like to use in my engine build. They are in very good condition but a few of them have a little rust on the outer case case. When taking them apart to clean its hard to take the metal strap from the outer case to the heat sink off and then back on without damaging it. I've attached a pic to show what I'm talking about. I'm assuming this piece is a ground and is required?

Can this piece be bought seperate?

I took one of them apart and its almost impossible to get the clip off and on without bending it up. I want clean and paint these coil brackets to make it to look good but I would hate to ruin some of the coils by mangling that little clip.
