Default Engine on a Stand..anyway to properly install crank bolt?

I have an engine I am building on a stand...
I want to install the Crank bolt now while its out of the vehcile as I can actually get on it with a long leverage bar to crank it down to 37ft lbs + 140* stretch per GM Spec...
but I dont know how to lock the engine down so it doesnt just spin the thing over...

anybody have a suggestion or a method that works?

bolt the flywheel or flexplate up, and have someone hold a pry bar on it wedged on the enginestand, while you tq it down.

agreed, however, if this is the only engine he will be building, its kinda hard to justify.

ive always used the flexplate and a pry bar. works fine for me. i should probably buy the tool, but idk if it can be used on different engines. i build both small blocks and LS engines here and there. i know the LS has a different bolt pattern on the crank for the flywheel than a small block.

I thought I was only gonna use mine once but over the years I have used it several times and its still worth something if I wanted to get rid of it. Win.

Searched around here and found the part number, then search the classifieds and ebay. Bought it brand new for about $60. I have also let some buddies use it for cam installs and such. Its likely been used more then half a dozen times including over this past weekend when my impact didn't have the ***** to get the bolt loose.

Lock the Flywheel, IMO a pry bar will work.

Are you installing the balancer as well at the same time??? If you are you need a different set up then stock or longer then stock crank bolts to draw it on.
