Replace K&N fipk with lid?

Replace K&N fipk with lid? Just like title says, 99 ss has k&n cold air all it is is a big open element and seems like it would pull in all the hot air, plus it's loud as hell. Should I just put an slp lid on it or maybe a volant cold air?
