Default Exhaust Backfire, Major Loss In Power, Low Idle

Im just going to say I'm sorry way in advance because I have asked this question so many times. But Im just trying to figure out what the hell is wrong.

I have 00 WS6 Trans Am and for the longest time I have had a bad exhaust backfire. And I mean it pops all the time. When Im at about 1200 or 1300 rpm it while sound like a machine gun going off under my car. If I go WOT it pops bad too, and decelerating its bad too. Its really embarrassing.

Also I have had a real loss in power. It chooses when it wants to go or not. If I have my foot steady on the pedal it feels like the car is violently shaking back and forth. The rpms are steady, then they go up in a heartbeat and then back down the next.

Not only that but also the fact that my Idle seems dangerously low, about 500 rpm and it seems like its about to stall out.

My engine light has been on for as long as I can remember, I have random cylinder misfires, and my egr is going off so I dont know if that is the problems either. And then it starts flashing at me and runs like absolute garbage.

I dropped the LS6 camshaft in the engine about 5 months ago, and it seemed to run better, but now it feels like its just getting even worse. I have changed out the coil packs to see if that was the problem, spark plugs, spark plug wires. I just have no clue what to do now. Its so discouraging especially with summer coming up. I seriously just want to dump the thing in a lake and let it just die.

I really need help. If you need any specific details just ask. Right now ill take any advice. I just need the help, so thanks you in advance.

SES light on? Smoke coming out? If so, what color. Stock tune?

You need to have a tech tool scan your PCM. With all you describe, I'm thinking a bad PCM.

Maybe it could be a bad map sensor. Mine would only act up at 4000+ rpms cause it constantly read 28psi. Turns out the sensor on mine had oil in it
edit: just reread what you wrote. Your problem is much worse than what I had so its probably something else

Thats a good idea to get that checked out. Have you checked you're O2 sensors? Do you have cats? could be clogged.

I would take it to auto zone and have them scan it and see what codes pop up,that will at least narrow the issues down,I know when my car was just bolt ons I broke 2 springs and it had rough idle etc,I don't think that's your issue, but get it scanned autozone will do it for free, than post up what codes came up
