gunk in my TB
hey guys trying to get my new ported TB in before I have to go to work, anyway upon removing my old TB I found some oily type gunk in the top right on the TB and and the corresponding location on the intake manifold. My questions are is it supposed to be there, if not is it a sign of an issue with my engine?
pics below waiting to hear back from you guys before I clean it up, and put the new TB on

Well I know that unless you have done the TB bypass mod you will have coolant flowing through your TB, but it almost looks too dark to be dex-cool and seems like it has a mix of oil in it, im not sure but if I remember correctly this does mean you have a serious issue. Hopefully the best case scenario is a bad gasket somewhere.
I remember on my V6 i had a bad lower intake manifold, which caused some gunk like this and i ended up replacing the LIM gasket. not sure how the design is on a LS1 though...
When was the last time you changed your coolant??

Thanks for the input.....but this is the part of the TB that is connected to the left cylinderhead so its most likely engine oil I'm just not sure that its supposed to be there

That bung is the PCV makeup air path. At WOT you
have more blowby than the metered PCV valve can
pass (and no manifold vacuum) so the blowby runs
backwards in the unchecked line and carried a lot
of oil fog with it.
The older and looser the rings get, the more of it
you will see.
I use a little sump type plastic fuel filter in that line
as a poor-boy catch can. Everybody thinks about
the "suction" side but at WOT there is no suction
to speak of, and the oil fog takes whatever exit it
can get.
