Default Hooker Catback - Is This Rasp?

I used to notice this crappy sound when I had a cutout only exhaust. Is this what we're caling rasp or is this another problem? I would really like a setup that doesn't make this noise.

At about 0:43 as the rev is on the way down in the clip at top of list.

Looks like to me he started it up on a cold start and revved it, resulting in that noise.

I don't think its just a cold start thing because I would hear the sound all the time with my stock car. I softer when my cutout was closed, but it was still there.

I hear the same sound from the magnaflow.

Listen as it revs down in the clip - LS1 stock w/magnaflow (block 7, clip 1).

I don't hear that at all in any GMMG clips. There is a before and after in the GMMG section and the stock has that same nasty sound on the way down but the GMMG is flawless. GMMG section (3rd block up from the bottom, 1st clip)

Anyone else have some input on this? Everyone says hooker and magnaflow sound great. I'm not so sure.

I tried a Hooker Aerochamber with LT/ORY for a little while. It was raspy 2200-2800rpm. Nowhere near as raspy as the GMMG I had on when the LT/ORY was installed. That thing rasped like a jackhammer. I tried the Hooker to cure it; it was better, but not enough.

Im running the hooker CB with Kooks Catted Y. I have H/I/Trex cam and mine isn't raspy at all. Actually pretty quite at lower rpm's but def loud in the upper rpm's.

I know there are problems with rasp when you have headers and ORY but I'm mainly talking about catback only. IMO judging from the clips from ls1sounds GMMG sounds great while hooker and magnaflow sound like crap on the way down in RPM's.

From my reading, If you're gonna have headers and ORY you have to have a Dynomax bullet in the I-pipe. There is a guy on here with a red TA with cam, headers, ORY, reversed Dynomax in I-pipe and GMMG and it sounds great. I think you could do the same for your hooker or magnaflow if you have headers and ORY to solve the problem too.

Here is the thread on how to eliminate rasp. He actually used a Powerstick bullet.

It all depends on what y pipe you're running too. The bad designs are notorious for creating rasp. Don't be too quick to judge a CB because it's got some rasp. (LM setups aside)

I don't notice any rasp from my Hooker but maybe I'm just used to it. It's pretty tame compared to the old LM but sounds better overall. This is with lt's and shitty Pacesetter y pipe. I would try a better y if I were you.
