Default Fast 78mm on a stock 99 z28..

So I just stepped out of the LT1 game and now I'm trying to run with the big doggs.. The first thing I bought was a air lid.. Now my delima is my buddie has a FAST 78mm intake he wants to sell me for 150$$.. I've looked online and those things are pretty expensive, should I get it and put it on or will it hurt my car more then help it.. I was told FAST intakes are only good of you have over 450hp.. I just don't want to get it and have no effect or like I said have it hurt it more then helP it...

Buy it now.

It will pick up ~15-20rwhp on your car now over the ls1 intake and be worth more as you mod more. Whoever told you they are useless unless you have over 450hp is a retard.

If you don't use it, you can sell it for $400+. If you use it, you can probably even get $75-100 for your stock intake. No brainer.

Stock LS1 throttle body is 78mm...so just get it ported and your set. By the way, I believe you could purchase a Fast 90 Upper piece and it will work on your 78...you could have a 90mm for much much less than anyone else!

Your gonna need a tune anyway...the car will be flowing alot more air and its gonna need a tune. Yes, the upper shell I believe is interchangeable with a 90mm and maybe a 92mm...someone correct me if I am wrong though.

The upper shell can be swapped for a 90. If you don't want it ill take it, I'm looking for an intake

You will benefit from a tune and I would have your air fuel checked with a wideband, but it shouldn't be far enough out to hurt anything. You just won't get full results without a tune.

I would get headers and exhaust and then tune for everything at once.

Your stock throttle body will work with the 78mm top shell. If you get a 90mm top shell (hard to find) you will need a throttle body.

Wow I would have bought it already!!! The last few have went on here for $400-500. It's good for as state 15-20hp, get your tbody ported and a tune and youll be happy. It isn't worth swapping the 90 top shell unless you get one dirt cheap ($100). You'll gain maybe 2-5hp.

Okay sounds good.. So my setup as of now consist of a MTI air lid, stock tb and the fast 78 intake.. I will be getting my LT ceramic headers and a exhaust in about 2 weeks..and as for the tune I will take your advice and tune it once all the parts are on..

Can you port the neck of the 78mm Fast to use a 3 bolt 85mm TB with it?
