Thumbs down I just want to punch something.....

Bought an Edelbrock 8896 Victor water pump on Dec 19. The water pump has about 30 miles on it and there is coolant coming from under the pulley. I bought the Edelbrock pulley and spent well over $600 on the cooling setup and 30 miles later and 2/12 months and it's leaking. I'll post a pic later but wtf???? I just installed the water pump in January, just put new Koni shocks and BMR springs on and finished today with my panhard bar. Put the car on ramps to double check the new stabilizer link bushings after taking for a quick spin, crawled underneath the front and there is coolant on the bottom of the pump. You can see where it coming from. Just in case I double checked everything. I spent 4 hours detailing the car and engine because I was so proud that I got the suspension done. Now this. How depressing......

I wouldn't buy a product from edelbrock if it was the last aftermarket company in businesses for reasons just like this. Unless your buying a set of heads for a Gen I SBC, their products are garbage. Sorry to see that man. Hope you get it resolved.

ya, i feel their quality has gone down since they are trying to reach out to so many markets with the domestic and imports. if they wouldve invested their efforts from the imports to domestic only like how their roots started, their products wouldnt be so bad. i feel the same about holley also. not saying that they should cater just to us, but ford and dodge also, the three domestic contenders but only to the these three "performance" models such as the srt8, mustang, corvette, camaro, etc all with v8's. let other companies deal with the four banger and sixer models.

They should be able to send me just this right? I mean you would think that would be a viable solution don't you think? I mean, that's like one of the reasons I bought this pump so I could just replace the hub and not take the car apart. Why pull the whole pump off when I could just replace this? Free of charge of course, I will not pay for it. I'm not going to start doggin them just yet but I hope to hell they make this right........

OP, have you confirmed the water pump itself is the source of the leak?

I checked the gaskets, no leaks. Checked hoses which are all new silicone, no leaks. Checked thermostat housing which is brand new, no leaks there. Re torqued the bolts just to be sure. I don't know what else it could be, especially where the coolant is located. I don't know. I got real drunk last night. I just got done with the suspension (which I spent about all the extra money I had on) and was so happy to be able to finally drive it. My heart sank when I saw it.....Damn, why me.

Update: Been searching on the web and came across this:

From someone who talked to Edelbrock about leaking waterpump....

"It's actually normal for small mounts of coolant to seep out of the weep hole before the pump's fully broken in (which should happen within 150 miles). Yet under normal circumstances, the fluid seepage would decrease over time, not increase, and the normal seepage should be a really small amount."

From this forum: http://www.fordification.com/forum/v...st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Edelbrock isn't open until Monday. I will call to confirm with them. I'll keep you updated.

Has it overheated since you noticed the leak?

Small seepage that decreases over the pumps span? Wow nice product... At least the factory one held the coolant

Yeah, I find that odd also.

However, it does seem that you're blaming the pump because you can't find that the leak is from anything else. You haven't actually proved that the pump is the source of the leak.

See what Edelbrock says.

Just got off the phone with Edelbrock. Guy said it was normal. The seal has to break in. After I told him that it only had about 30 miles on it he said it needs to be ran. He said that it is common. When it has some miles on it and it gets closer to your 1 year warranty then if it leaks call back and go from there. Should seal after about 100 miles. I don't know. He seemed like I wasn't the only one who called about it from the first question he asked me "Has it been ran at all"? I said I started it every 2 weeks and took it around for about 30 miles during a warm streak we had in January. Not enough. The car needs to be driven. Supposed to be a nice weekend so I will take her out and stretch her legs a bit. Car hasn't been driven for more than 5 miles since the little drive in January. We will see.......
