i would say YES! ive installed my LS6 intake without them and oh man..knives scratching against your block is all i could think of...i live in middle east and couldnt find them..so i made my own. just get any pads and slice them to your stock pads and thats it. it is back to stock now. plus they would keep junk off your knock sensors.

Mine were all wore out when I switched from my ls1 to an ls6 manifold so I just went without them. No problems so far, but the next time the intakes off I'll probably throw some in there.

I thought the TSB on the KS fix with the RTV dam calls for removing these things? Anyone got that TSB? As someone said above they just hold moisture in... I think you take out the rear one or something i forget...
edit: yeah i just double checked the TSB... says to make an RTV dam on rear sensor (i just did both) and remove the rear foam pad. You can put the front pad in though.
Oh and the foam pieces come with the fel-pro intake gasket kit... so you will get the 8 gaskets for the runners and then the 2 foam pads. I think they cost $20. Autozone or any large auto parts store should have this.

I guess it prevents echo from the intake floor against the valley cover or something.
