sign of a clogged fuel filter???
I have a 2000 ss camaro and when i left work today my car wouldnt start. I had to rev it a little while turning the ignition to get it to start. When idiling though it drops below 1000 rpms and will shut off. Im a noob so any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Could actually be a fuel pump going bad.
But you can easily test a fuel filter by blowing through it. Pull it off and blow through it. If it's clear you should be able to blow through it without any effort. A clogged one will be very difficult to blow through.
If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, hook it up to the fuel rail and see what it reads.

Thanks for the suggestions. Im not sure if the fuel pump is failing but when i turn the key to the "on" position i hear a clicking noise behind the driver's side which i thought would be the fuel pump kicking on. Not sure though if that means it is working properly. I will try the fuel filter first though cuz it seems like the cheapest/ easiest thing to try first.

Well i tried the fuel filter but unfortunately didnt solve my issue. A buddy of mine does however have a scanner and it did come up with the code P0101. Looked it up and seems like the culprit is the maf sensor. Checked the wiring to it and it all seemed ok so i was gonna try replacing the maf sensor. Do you guys think i am on the right track? Is this common issue to go wrong?

Ok thanks i will try the maf cleaner first (cheaper route is always better if it fixes the issue). Would maf sensor replacement be next if the spray doesnt work?

Un plug the maf and try to start it. The computer will default to the low octane fuel table (no big deal, just reduced power under load) but if it's the issue, it should start and hold idle.

Ok well i tried cleaning the maf sensor with crc maf cleaner but still sputters when it starts and rpms jump around while idling until it stalls out. Was gonna try disconnecting the maf sensor but not sure which plugs need to be disconnected. Is it just the plug connected to the maf sensor or do i have to disconnect the small plug right at the air filter too? Just wanna make sure im doin this right.

So i pulled off the plug to the maf sensor and car started up and seemed to be idling fine at right around 1000 rpms. Service engine soon light is still on though but im assuming thats on cuz i disconnected the sensor? So does that confirm the maf sensor bad since i already tried cleaning it? Thanks again to all those who gave comments on trying to help me figure out this issue.

Yes sounds like the maf is bad. Since it's unplugged that is what's causing the SES light, the car is currently running in speed density. I would attempt one more time to clean the maf before looking for a replacement, or you could just get the car tuned for speed density.
