Red face exhaust before headers??

so i have a 2002 camaro z28 bone stock besides the muffler delete on the stock exhaust(bought that way) my dilema is theres a cstom exhaust place around were i am that does good work and is dirt cheap. My neighbor took his 5.0 fox body there with just headers no exhaust they put a dual exhaust,H-pipe, half dumped did all the fabrication and made a custom hanger for the exhaust for $150. Now i know everyone says do headers before exhaust, however I could get a prety good deal there. So my question is how much of a pain would it make for me when I do get headers and want them put on?

Appreciate the input

Plenty of people throw on a cat-back before ditching the stock manifolds and y pipe. I've never been told to do headers first either. If I could get that good of a deal I would definitely go for it if it were my car. Just my opinion. Some people who really know what they're talking about probably have some better info for you.

One of my first mods was the Borla exhaust and SLP y. Later I added L/T's.

As long as you keep the stock routing and connecting points, there's no reason a future head install will encounter any problems due to a new exhaust. Header manufacturers make connecting pipes that fit between their headers and the stock location of the catback, so if that's intact then your're fine.

Now if you go make a custom exhaust up to the manifolds you're going to have to make a custom connection when you get the headers.

On this note, I doubt I can afford both LT and catted H at the same time. CanI put LT headers on a stock pipe? Specifically, my 98 SS with stock pipe into the dual dual system.

9 out of 10 Fbod owners put catbacks/muffler on their cars before anything else......
