What I should do with this motor, its going in a 1970-81 camaro. I've been doing some reading on here, and it looks like alot of people have bored to a 408 and went with a turbo setup.

You want to stay N/A or go turbo? What's your budget?

Define "alot of power" for you,you can make good power with an lq motor with simple mods and still be n/a. Being budget friendly is going to depend on your realistic goals. But to put it midly..small cam, headers, full exhaust,ls6 or truck intake, mill the 317 heads with new springs and pushrods to keep budget low will net you over 350whp/tq

Say I pull up beside a honda at the streetlight, give me enough power to get by that without having to change driveshafts and rear axles

If all you want to smoke an everyday Honda you see at a redlight, I would just put some new gaskets on it, mill the heads, slide a cam in it, get a ls6 intake (assuming you are keeping it fuel injected), a set of longtubes, a converter and a tune (if you stay fuel injected) and call it a day.

Being a 6.0 with a cast iron block it is a lq4/lq9. The ls1 and ls2 have aluminum blocks. Also just about every part on the exterior of the short block interchanges, with other LS style engines.

Take it to the machine shop and get that thing cleaned.

New gaskets, ls2 timing chain, new valvesprings, pushrods, oil pump, ls6 intake and a cam.

If you buy ARP bolts they are sold by the year of the block not the head.
I have a buddy that just put one in a 63 Valiant, carbed set up and should be bad ***!

lol you need to open yourself more to faster cars to race against.stock ls1's would burry hondas..an lq4/9 are pretty much the iron version of an ls1/2.

send the heads to be milled/ported,.040 head gaskets,do a mild cam in the 226-230 range under .600 lift and change the valve springs and hardened pushrods, headers and full exhaust.you will have a very streetable car with plenty midrange ..ave hondas will be a waste of your time to run at this point..unless you liking picking on them for fun.

my setup as it sits with stock manifolds and heads is more than plenty..i like playing around with other fbods..c5's and stangs ..the odd bmw or rx7 here and there make for much better runs that i dont feel i wasted my gas proving a point lol.

Ok I decided to just keep it a simple N/A rebuild. so how much should I mill and port the heads? I was reading that .030 is a good number for milling. Ill be getting a new cam and lifter kit too, under .600 lift. Why would I be able to re-use the springs and pushrods?
