Default Do you really need to take fast 92 apart before install?

I put the fast 92 intake on today! After I put it on, I saw in the instructions that you should take it apart to inspect the seal before installing it. Do you really need to do that? I called fast but the guy who I talked to didn't know.

It's a good idea to check it out, yes. Who knows, there could be a piece of rope gasket, paper, packing peanut... SOMETHING in a runner. I just think its a good idea to take it apart and check, and yes, visually inspect the rope gasket as well for anything obvious.

I wouldn't say you NEED to though.

Thanks for the info. The issue is I already installed it. I could always remove it. We all know how fun intake swaps can be on a f body. lol

I learned the hard way. Always take the fast intakes apart if they are used. The previous owner neglected to tell me he grenaded his engine. After the intake got warmed up the aluminum went right into my engine and destroyed everything. The block wasn't even salvageable. My car was down for 7 months!

I have a 102 and something I noticed were some mold ridges were biting into the runner orings. At minimum it looked like it might prevent them from sealing as well so I worked them all with a file. Agree w whigham its probably not mandatory, just cheap and easy insurance. Id probably take it apart next time its off.

The intake is new from Fast. I think I'll just take it apart next time it's off the car. Thanks for all the info guys. It needs to be port matched to the heads anyways!

we took mine apart when it was new, just like the directions said to do.....
and i never understood why, they say to take it apart.?.?

all we did was put it back together & install it.........

i mean, hell its brand new in the box why take it apart.
all the gaskets were sealed & when we pulled it apart we had to reseal some of them.
