I will get the exhaust in today but I'll be at work when it comes. Need to know before I go in do I need to order some tape cause next weekend I'm planning on our ring it under my car... I asked Jake but he went with 100 bucks piece from heat shield. I'm trying not to spend that much. Thanks

Why do you need any? The exhaust follows the stock pathway.

One dude had it a little close to the tank, melted a piece of it. When you install the kooks true duals I believe some of the stock aluminum heat shields come off to make room.

Have mine sitting in the living room, it comes with a 6in or so strip that stick on the gas tank.

That being said, when I dropped my tank I put aluminum tape two layers thick on that entire 1/4 of the tank.

Should be fine with the piece that kooks supplies.

Kooks hardley gives you any, if you want to tape the tank you will need extra for sure.

Yes, you're talking about LPE's build

My car is a 2000 Z28. Not sure about the tank. I think it's metal. I have heard it's mighty close to the tank bur not sure. I just got the exhaust system in. I'm pumped.

You should still care I would think. My thought would be the tape would still add some value in "reflecting" heat away from the tank and not heat your fuel. Cheap insurance.....

I'd like to think they started adding tape to their kits thanks to my mishap.....lol, what a mess that was.

I might be splitting hairs, but just to be clear, this isn't just tape....it's a sticky heat shield "mat". (Heatshield Products). I taped the borders to prevent fraying.

Thought they were all plastic? IMHO, for that expensive *** system it should fit like a glove!

So I got the exhaust system in. Really nice exhaust system. Only complaint is that it only came with a foot of heat tape. So I order a 15 foot row from summit racing. What do tall recommend cleaning the gas tank with before applying the tape ?

I used my stock metal heat shield. Just had to bend it up some to get it to fit right, but it's been on the car for over a year now no issues

Do you remember what brand it was? I have a metal tank but I still want to wrap it for peace of mind.

Like mac, mine still looks like new and holding up nicely. Another option you might consider prior to installation is wrapping the pipe themselves with header wrap in the area closest to the tank.

I thought of doing exactly that but ended up leaving the heat shield in and just trying to bend it up out of the way, not successful for me, still hits and rattles.

I bought a pack of heat shield tape at Autozone and covered the tank up to the strap on the exhaust side. Overkill? Probably. $20 was an easy price to pay for piece of mind.
