Default Intake Manifold Install Help!

Hey guys, I was just swapping my intake over this afternoon, and there's this weird piece, it looks like some sort of bracket on the rear of the drivers side of the intake near the fuel rails, and I have no clue how to put it on the new manifold as I can't even figure out how it was on the old manifold. I'm sure it goes on like the first pic shows, however the holes don't line up in that position (that's the old manifold). They only line up when the piece is upside down (second pic) due to a notch that allows it to slip next to the injector, but I don't believe that's the correct position because I've only seen pics of it placed in the position as seen in the first pic. Did I break it or something? If so, what is this bracket called? And is it absolutely necessary to replace?

No that bracket is not necessary. That was actually put there as a safety stop to prevent the fuel rail from getting shoved through the firewall in a accident scenario

Ah, I see. So I guess the "upside down" position, as I called it, was indeed the correct position. Thanks, I appreciate the help.
