Default REtaRded Squeal

Sometimes my car sounds like a retarded pig on start up. I know what a belt squeal is and it is not that. But when the car is done warming up or with its start up cycle the noise is gone. THis does not happen everytime the car is turned on, usually only on hot humid days i've noticed. But yeah it reminds me of a retarded pig....

remember the car is an 01, does it matter? The sound does it in that area where you are talking and only lasts for a few seconds. Usually on very humid days and once the car has warmed up or i rev the rpms it goes away. When the rpm's come down it starts again until the car is done warming up. If its the air pump, how do i fix it?

Most likely, you have two options. Replace the AIR pump, which will likely cost a few hundred dollars. Or simply remove the AIR pimp, and use AIR blockoff plates on your manifolds. Unfortunately, youll set a code and youll need hptuners / ls1 edit or the like in order to remove it. The option is probably several hundred dollars more, but you get your car tuned.

I dont know if anyone has ever fixed an air pump, but you may be able to unplug all the hoses and see if it quiets down. I think you can just unplug the hoses from the pump itself safely, since there are check valves that prevent exhaust leaks, and since the pump is still plugged in, you wont set a code. Maybe not putting a load on the pump will be enough to quiet it down. Can someone verify thats its safe to atleast try this?

01 and 02 do indeed have AIR. What they do not have is EGR.

oops my bad source was wrong. to test the air, remove the fuse for it, if it still does this then you can eliminate that as a source.

Good advice. However, pulling the fuse will set a SES light after a few starts.
