Fixed y-pipe banging from Macs headers
I installed Mac mids with O/R Y on my Z back in May and ever since then the Y pipe has banged under the car everytime I was turning and getting on the gas it would bang loudly under the car. I have read of fixes were some welded springs under the car, but I am not a welder so that fix wasn't for me. Well, while I was working on other things for the car I got to looking at it and came up with this:
I used two layers of a foam type tape (found at lowes) used to seal doors and windows and things, and stuck two on top of each other and to the under side of the car. Then I took some RTV High Temp Rubber gasket maker and put plenty of it between the foam and the ypipe. I filled it in on both sides on top of the Y till it was sold across the top of the Y pipe. So far I have gone 250 miles and haven't had a bit of banging (and it was loud enough to hear down the road outside the car) and it seems to be holding up well. I am curious how well the RTV will last, but so far so good. I will report if this ends up being a temp. fix or if it works from now on.

Very creative.. I'm not sure how long that will last.
I fixed mine this afternoon with a little thick rubber exhaust hanger and stainless steel wire.
That banging about drove me freakin nuts. It would bang on takeoff and shifting into second.
Let us know how long your fix lasts.

Same here with the banging. Yea, it might not last long, but for no longer then it took too do, and since I had the matterials already it was worth a shot!! If it doesn't work I will try your approach which sounds like it would work as well.

That might melt after a couple of cycles. I used a band clamp around the y-pipe, then wedged a hard piece of rubber between the clamp and floorboard. After 1 year there is no melting and it's still in place.

try a poly motor mount. the engine won't torque as much and you shouldn't have any banging after that. use a search. i ordered mine this weekend and it will go in as soon as i get it.

well, I have the long trip to darlington in two weeks so we will see what happens. If it doesn't last, I will try the rubber Ideas, anything as long as there is no welding involved!!

I bought it for $30 off of ebay. You can buy one at www.mufflex-performance.com for around the same price i believe. I haven't installed it yet but when I do I'll let you know how it turns out.
