Default Best Cheapest Underdrive Pulleys?

I want to get a set of underdrive pulleys. Anyone have any advice on a brand and price range? I want a good set for cheap. Thanks in advance.

ASP, around $230.00 with required belts, check the board sponsors over there ---> to order.
You mention you want a 'set' but the underdrive pulley is basically just one piece, unless you get the alternator pulley as well.
I would go with just the underdrive pulley itself personally though.

March runs about the same. No need for the alternator pulley unless you are running a sound system or something. My battery gets full charge with no problems, and i watch that alternator gauge like a hawk. Plus the March pulley is fluid dampened.

also try speed inc's pulley. $189.

however, something to note, is that "best" and "cheap" usually aren't used together successfully in the LS1 performance world(or anywhere else for that matter).

Whats the difference in March and ASP? Are they the same design? Is there anything signifigant in the design or anything else for that matter that makes it better?

March is fluid dampened. Big difference.

I got a march from SDPC for 175, but it was on sale. Pretty cheap if you ask me.

So what I'm seeing is go with the fluid dampened March & no need for the alternator pulley (I am not running a sound system, nor do I have any plans to.) Thanks, guys. If you have any other advice let me know.

Im running a SLP pulley on my car... I got tired of waiting for the ASP being on backorder at the time, and SpeedInc told me SLP had re-designed the pulley from the older ones that had a lot of problems, so I decided to give it a try and so far Im very happy with it.. Seat of the pants car seems to be a little faster, and I get noticeable increase in wheelspin in 1st and shifting into 2nd, so I think it did have some gains...Havent been to dyno to see if it actually gained any power, but the pulley combined with cooler weather (I didnt go to the track much during the hotter months) recently gave me a consistent 2 tenths lower ET and 3 mph increase with similar 60' times.

Yeah, why would fluid dampened be any better?

Fluid dampened is better because it dampens your engines harmonics better, making it better balanced, and reducing the possibility of harmfully vibrations and false knock retard.

Preference. Doubt. Some people feel ASP makes a better product because they have been making LS1 pulleys longer. I feel March does a better job because almost all they make is pulleys.

March pulleys for the LS1 just came out not too long ago. I have ASP crank and underdrive alternator and have no problem. The volts at idle do drop a little more but no problems. I think pulleys are a great mod whichever way you go because they DO give hp gains, they're cheap, and easy to install. I wish every mod was as easy!

Thumbs up

Not that it matters all that much but the ASP is lighter than the March, and I'm a FREAK when it comes to saving weight, especially off the nose.

its interesting that everyone agrees (but one guy it looks like) that we don't need the corresponding alternator pulley...?

The weight is close to the middle of the hub, thus effectively reducing rotating mass as opposed to it being at the hubs edges....

Anytime you can take weight of things that spin it's generaly a good thing . I don't see any real need for the alternator pulley if you're just using the stock radio/accessories.
