Default Destroyed my Header

I blew a fat hole in my Pacesetter Coated Passenger side longtube.

It's where the back EGR post "used" to be. I had the EGR blocked off, I guess the turbo made a little too much pressure for the weld

I thought I lost a pushrod or something... It sounded so nasty, I got out and I could see the spark when I popped the hood. I thought my plug wire came loose... Upon further inspection, I could see that I blew a quarter sized hole out of the header. With an STS system being a sealed system, I loose a lot of exhaust pressure, or the ability to spool the turbo. I guess it's time for a set of QTP stainless WITHOUT emissions

Uh, can't you get Pacesetters in Race (non-emissoins) trim? Depending on how much money you have, I'd try race Pacesetters before I dropped $800+ for the QTPs.
Good luck.

um...why not weld a plate over the hole...I had the same thing happen to me with my Hokoer Lt's.....They're not "destroyed", just a little welding and it's all fixed now...

Yes, you can buy race Pacesetters. I bought the car with these headers, so it wasn't my choice initially. The main reason for QTP is the stainless. I have a few reasons for my choice.
1. Stainless will hold heat a little better then the coated headers, which is necessary for the spooling of the turbo.
2. Stainless won't rust.
3. If I'm going to take the time to put headers on again, I'm going to do it right. <- period

I asked an exhaust shop if they would weld a washer on the hole for me. They declined and said it would fall off in no-time. They weren't even interested in doing the work. I got kind of fedup after the 3rd shop, so I just decided to get new headers. These were crummy "rusty" looking anyway.

That's cool. I think mine was welded shut about 6 months ago, and it is still good as new.....Good luck wither way.

Why are you going with QTP over Kook's??

I don't have any reason inparticular. I havn't heard anything but good from QTP headers. They seem to be more popular then kooks too if I'm not mistaken. I havn't ordered anything yet, I'm set on the stainless though...

QTP's and Kooks are pretty much the same headers, just a different name on the plate. Go with whatever is cheaper. I have a set of Kooks in my garage, and they're freakin awesome. Gettin installed next week

That's what I'm doing as well, I have a brand new set of Jet Hots sitting in my garage but they have the EGR and the AIR fittings and I just don't want (or need, removed all that crap on Monday) that on there and stainless is just better so QTP race headers it is!

NASCAR style technology man ...the best, most power making headers will cost more yes but they're worth it.

That's a very common problem with headers that have a few miles on them. Turbo or not

Most people I know that have had that issue just welded the tube back onto the primary.. or like said above, weld a patch over it.

"high velocity merge collectors" I believe they're called.

Not to mention how dangerous it is driving a car with an exhaust leak that big that close to the head......chance to do some damage to the motor there....

Better run open loop. Who knows what the a/f would be with a hole like that!

I ordered some pacesetter race Ltubes. I didn't order the stainless because I might be running a new setup shortly down the road...

I took a 3.5 cage that houses hdrives and floppies out of an old computer and cut a large strip out of it. I wrapped that around the hole and put a metal clamp around it. It seems like it sealed it pretty well. I did that just to get it across town... Now it's under a car cover
