Default MSD makes LS1 coils now

http://www.msdignition.com/2005/2005_2.htm

LS-1/LS-6 Blaster Coil
Finally a performance replacement coil for the popular Gen III GM small block! This engine, most notably the LS-1 and LS-6, is fast becoming a favorite performance engine. But, not just in Camaros, the new GTO and Corvettes - also in muscle cars and street rods.
The complex electronic controls of the original coils presented the aftermarket with a challenge as the drivers that control the firing of the coils are built into the OE models. MSD engineers were able to design an advanced circuit that will operate with the factory electronics of the Gen III engine controls while producing a higher output spark. Not only do you get a higher voltage spark, but the coil will deliver multiple sparks! That’s right - multiple spark discharge coils! Notice that the coil has two connectors molded into the custom housing.
One accepts the factory coil connector, the other is for an upcoming ignition controller. (This controller is still in the development stages but it will allow you to program functions of the ignition. We’re planning a lot more for the Gen III fans!) The new coils mount in place of most factory LS-1 and LS-6 coils.
LS-1/LS-6 Blaster Coil
PN 8245
Note: Available individually, CARB approval pending.

I was under the impression that the factory coils were more than enough.

Not if you have FRCs You could always just paint your factory coils.

depends on where you put them....most people just stick them up under the cowel which seems to help.....

I moved mine out on the frame rails (one "tower" of packs is where the ABS unit WAS and the other is where the AC accumulator WAS ).......

it takes work to move but once they are out of the way it is 500000000000000 times easier to get in there and work (change plugs/adjust lash/etc....)

Whoa, thats a nice set up. Did you have any problem with the plug wires getting burnt by the headers? Did you need longer plug wires? It looks real nice from the pics but how does it look as a whole? Got a pic of the entire engine bay I could see?

not a single problem

I ordered a "you build it" set of MSD plug wires for an LT1 from Summit and called MSD for the coil pack ends.......then cut and made the wires as needed....the MSD crimping tool is a grift from the gods......makes wires EASY!!!!!!!!!!

might have made these a bit small but you get the idea......I can always email them

Opti-spark ends are the same terminals as the LSX coils, just straight boots versus the angled LSX.

FWIW, truck coils are doing just fine for me so far

I think that the idea of multiple sparks would be somewhat benefical. although I wonder if that could be done with factory coils by inserting a harness in line with the existing harness to allow multiple sparks.

these coils are worthless w/o an ignition box to supply them.
