Default Noob Belt Questions

Hey all! I have a 98 Z28 and there is a belt or something that is squeeky as hell. I am desperate to stop the squeeking. My ac/defrost has been out for a long time, i think it is the ac compressor. Does the belt for the ac run seperate from the serpentine belt? I see a smaller belt running seperate from the larger belt. Is this the ac belt? I am not interested at all in fixing the ac compressor, i would much rather get rid of the whole thing. What can I do to get rid of this squeeking!?!?!

if the ac belt is seperate, is it ok just to get rid of the belt and run it w/out one? Like cutting it? Would this get rid of the squeeking noise, and would it harm anything since i don't have ac or defrost anyways?
