Default LS1 mods....with warranty?

a friend of mine has a 2001 TA A4 thats pretty much stock except for a muffler. He wants to keep it under the warranty for at least a couple years yet he wants to mod it a little.....i told him lid and a catback, maybe some subframe connectors.

are there any mods he can do that wont get him nailed on the warranty?

thanks for any help.....

Just like you said, i think some dealers will install the hotcam under war. if they install it. Dont mark my word on that, but i have heard of that happening. Be careful with the subframe connectors, could void the suspension war.

it depends on your dealer.

anything more than intake or a catback could cause a problem.

remember that mods cant automatically void a warranty either.

I had the dealership install my converter and they agreed to
continue to warranty the rest of the drivetrain except for the
TCI part itself. I've had them do other installs since with the
same understanding, if they put it in they honor the warranty
except for the aftermarket piece itself. But this particular
dealership is unusual, they race and build 'Vettes and have a
full service 2-lift, >2000 square foot speed shop inside the
showroom with a chain link fence around it, so the customers
can "go to the zoo" while shopping.

Anyway, "you get what you negotiate". If they didn't get a
piece of the action, don't expect it to be a warm welcome
when you show up busted and looking for a freebie. With
enough aggravation and effort you can probably push them
over on warranty -if- the mods are obviously unrelated to
the complaint. But, that can be a hassle. At a shop rate
that's anything like local independents, I'll stick with my
inside speed shop dude. Stuff just gets handled when they
like your business, and it gets no traction if you're a losing
proposition. Way of the world.

After I had my headers installed, a O2 sensor went, they replaced it under warranty. it all depends on the dealership.

I actually work for GM protection plan which is part of GM, our take on aftermarket parts is this. If some one puts on headers that part is no longer warrantied, but the O2's are still warrantied. If someone replces the lower control arms and then that part is no longer covered, Items like subframe connectors are not covered by our warranty because frames and crossmember are not covered.
For the drivetrain components, if parts are added to the engine which may cause problems and excessive wear and tear to the engine, then that part may not be covered and as well as the engine. If it is deemed that you go drag racing with the veh, then your warranty may be canceled. This mainly deals with the extended warranty but we do generally follow GM guidelines.
