Cut Out Results: True or False
ok I need some expert advice on some dyno results my buddy got today from his LS1. He has an 01 Firehawk 10th Anniversary, 6spd, with some mods:
Flowtech cutout in the I pipe
Granatelli MAF, not sure if it is the correct year
Ported and polised MAF housing
completely gutted hood and airbox meaning you can see the filter through the Firehawk Hood.
he dyno'd it a couple of months ago without any of the above mods and get 323 at the wheels.
Today he dyno'd it with all the mods and got 344hp, and 359ftlb TQ with the cutout open.
Ontop of that, he dyno'd it with a 50shot straight into the airbox and put down 390hp and 410ftlb tq. Now I am not doubting the NOS dyno pull cuz giggle gas is just crazy. But is it feasible to dyno 344hp without any major mods??? You guys tell me...I thought my car dyno'd high with basic mods(see signature).

a cut-out will give you a nice gain with a stock cat-back car.....
after my H/C..... i had 381rwhp with cut-out closed....
and 400rwhp with it open.....
it makes a BIG diff. when you run good LT's, no cats, and it bottle necks at the stock muffler..... then the cut-out will help you net some good numbers!

I agreee with M6HuggerSS,it depends on your exhaust setup for how much you gain.If you have a free flowing exhaust, you hardly gain anything.I gained 2-3 hp with mine open. Some people gain these huge #'s from putting a cutout before their cats but have stock manifolds. Then someone else puts a cutout after the cats and wonders why they got half the power.
Imo I think its a waste to put a cutout on a stock car unless its before the cats. You're better off just cutting the pipe at the rear axle and calling it a day. It's not that loud!Same as a cut-out.
