Default Does this sound like a bad sensor?

I started up my car tonight and when I pushed in the clutch and put it in gear all my lights and the stereo shut off for a couple seconds, then came back on. I shut off my car, started it up again and the same thing happened. I drove it about 5 miles to my buddies house and the whole way there everytime I would put it in nuetral or slow down to a stop the RPMs would dip down to 500. When I got to about a block from his house it started running fine. My check engine light is usually always on because my cats are gutted but it shut off while this was happening and it hasn't come back on yet. My clock was also reset.
Could I have a bad sensor? If so, which sensors should I check?

Check your battery first. It seems like it's dying.
