Soapy water is usually used to test for a pressure leak. As the pressure is relieved at the leak, the solution bubbles.
Back in the "old days" would use a can of ether and spray around the intake/carb base. When the engine RPM's increased, there was the leak. However, I am not sure this is the best way to do it now. I am sure others here may have a better way.

I read that I could use TB cleaner and spray around the hoses and intake? That if there was a leak that the motor would suck in the vapors and the engine would idle smooth for a second or two.
Also found the soap and water trick works on what you said above.
