You put them in series with your exhaust. Usually before your cats or muffler. This causes a low pressure port that can be opened and closed at will. They are just electric valves (if you go for electric ones).

You can go with like the 30 dollar manual one to see how you like it first. Then you can either leave it manual or but the electric valve to open and close it from the inside. Which is pretty good if you go into the city or what ever. I just splerged and went with the QTP electric cut out right away, and i must say it sounds pretty bad ***.

Really depends on your current mods. I gained torque across the board, mods at the time (about 5 years ago) were lid, orp, catback. Generally you won't see any low end loss. You don't need back pressure, thats a fallacy, you need velocity though. If you lose too much velocity you may lose some low end / part throttle response.

i have used a cutout on every car i had and seen no less than 10hp gain and no lower than 5tq gain. I always had a good flowing muffler so my gain wasnt as much as some would get. You can get a 3in cutout with the three wing nuts for $25 shipped from Summit racing. several friends of mine that had camed and headered cars running flowmasters gain 22rwhp....for $25 its worth it for sure.

I have a 3 inch cut out with a wild cam and it sounds bad ***. I am running 3 inch piping to the stock muffler so when its closed it sounds like a rv or mild cam and when it's open it sounds like a beast. Even if I didn't gain any hp from it I would still want it just for the lovely sound of a wild cammed ls1 with open long tubes
