Default band clamps leaking, need help...

I've got Kooks LT's and catted Y, it seems all 3 band clamps are leaking and I have them TIGHT! Tighter than a v...well u get it. I've been checking them about once a month to see if they are losening up and after the heat cycle they are set. I've had several friends hear it and they say it's louder than it should be. It's a lil cold out tonight and when I started my car up and looked underneath to listen...the left side aft band clamp was spitting out water, that's a pretty good leak. I TRIED to tighen them again, they are f'in tight.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how do I fix it? 2 of my friends told me to put regular exhaust u-bolt clamps on but I know that'll dent my exhaust and I know if I ever wanna sell this exhaust that'll be a bad selling point.

there are no dints or whatnot in the exhaust system so it's gotta be the band clamps leaking.

I would not use U bolts unless you like bent pipes...

Maybe some high temp rtv? seems people have had good luck with that.

i found the secret weapon of band clamps=the ones you get for a semi.they're about 3"wide and conform to your pipes when you tighten them up.after hours of tightening and beating and banging i got a couple and in less than 10 minutes the leaks were gone.

You can get some good band clamps from the Jegs catalog.

There are only two band clamps I have found that don't leak over a long period. The Walker band clamps from Summit that are sold under the Dynomax name (they have black goo on them to seal up the seam). And the others are the Napa band clamps, they are either called easy seal or soft seal. To get the Napa's to seal good you have to torque them to atleast 60ft/lbs and you generally can't reuse them without them leaking. I can usually reuse the Walkers once before throwing them away. They are also easier to put on since it's just two bolts, no nuts.
