Default Dad thinks i should pay someone to install headers because "it will be too hard"

My dad is a former mechanic and is now a school teacher. Is installing headers on my car that hard(i know it takes a while)? Also how much would it cost to get them installed? and some ideas to convince my dad to help me install them(I'm still in high school btw)

Installing them is easy. I had my car off the ground 19" and they went right in. Wait until you see how much shop charge for that.

there is nothing hard about it. installation and fit kinda depends on what brand of headers you are using, some brands are awesome and others are junk. if you install them yourself you can save your money and put it towards another mod.

One day to take the old stuff off, (and removing the stock stuff is the hardest part IMO), installing the new stuff is easy.
Your dad is probably from the old school, where you had to fabricate this and bend that and add brackets and reweld this bit in order to get the headers to fit.
Nowadays it's easy no major fabrication/reworking BS to go thru. Old stuff out new stuff in
The worst part about the new cars is the lack of room, and the sharp edges so get some mechanics gloves(unless you like your hands being bloody) and have at it

Tell your dad to give you 300 to get the put on. It is not that hard to put them on just a little frustrating at times. A shop can't put headers on any better than you can, if they are on they are on. I put my headers on and I don't know **** about cars. Just make sure that you have some way of getting the car about a foot and a half up safely. You'll go broke paying people to do everything; get in there and do it. that is the only way you and me are going to learn.

to get the stock manifold out is definatly the hardest part about it. Once they are out, its literally 1 hour to put them babies in. With emmisions laws a shop will not install them unless you have cats and mufflers and all that BS... otherwise they can get fined for doing the work. Its a weekend job, you can do it.

Headers are cake. Just get the car up high enough and get started. You'll be done before you know it.

I just got done installing Hooker LT's in my 2002 TA a week ago. its not that hard, we didn't even use the install guide, but it does take some time. With breaks and everything (we have kids, we have to take a lot of breaks) it took us probably 15 hours, so set a weekend aside to get it all done. There are folks that say they did it in 5 hours but I don't see how that would be possible personally

Congrats on having such a cool car as a high school student!

I think the most important step is safely lifting the car. Once you are beyond that, it's just a matter of time consuming wrenching on nuts and bolts.

If I were a HS student and my school had an auto course, I'd enroll and do the work after school using their lift and tools.

The job can be done safely at home with jack stands in your driveway or garage, but a lift sure would make life easy.

if you can take bolts off and put them back in then this project will be cake, anyone that knows how to use a wrench can do headers, just make sure you line up the header gaskets and dont rush when putting in the bolt and you should do fine.

you dont have to weld you can use the clamps but it would be better to weld it so you dont have any leaks anywhere.

That would be the very last step, if it's even necessary.

Install everything with clamps. You may need to adjust a few pipes for a perfect fit. Once you are sure everything is positioned properly you could have it tack welded, but that would only be necessary if things work their way loose, most of the time just clamps are all that's needed.

Nuts and Bolts dude, thats all it is! Get your hands dirty, wipe some grease on a pizza and eat it, drop some oil in your beer, I mean soda pop, and drink it. Bond with your car. When you are done you will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing YOU did it. Its very rewarding and an ego boost to say that only your wrenches are on the car. Be proud!! Your Dad will be when your done. Get him to help, if he's a Mechanic from way back he might have some good tips for you and the two of you can work on a Hotrod together! This is so emotional, I could cry at any moment! LOL!!!!
