Default 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 for big cubes running a Y pipe with a 3" I

Is it worth it to have 1 7/8 headers when running a 3 inch Y and a 3 inch I pipe out to the back of the car over 1 3/4 headers?

If so, why?
If not, why?

I swaped from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 on my SI car and dynoed the exact same numbers. But i bet the 1 7/8 are gonna shine now that the Trex is in.
