Default Ported throttle body DYNO RESULTS... Home ported, Sponsors, stock 3 way comparison...

Finally made it to the dyno today. I took my own ported throttle body that I was told wasnt up to standard by some of the board members. I took a stock throttle body, and lastly I took a "popular" sponsors throttle body as well. I would like to post the graph, but the lines are so close its not really worth it. Ill probably do it anyway, just to hush the nay sayers. Results are as follows.

Stock 475/486.3

Sponsors 477.9/487.5

"home" ported 484/492.4

Gains with each throttle body were from 4k to the limiter. 9rwhp across the board with mine over stock.I was actually REALLY surprised to see a throttle body was worth 9rwhp to begin with, I was even more surprised mine made the most power. All in all Im VERY happy with my results and glad I saved the money.

I do NOT wish to disclose whos thottle body I used for testing, as Im not out to tramp on anyones toes, I just wanted to share my PERSONAL results with you guys.

I guess the guy who told me in my last thread I didnt have my throttle body up to par because of my "lack of knowledge as a professional in air flow" didnt know what he was talking about after all

BTW, the car we used made 6 back to back passes to ensure the motor was consistant. It was a local buddy of mine with a 409 iron block.

Could you possibly post pictures of your throttle body, so we could see your "secret" to big horsepower? I ported mine, but am not so sure that it made that much of a difference.

Not bad, especially considering the room for improvement you left yourself after your first attempt.

Damn, 9 rwhp is good. Are you considering offering a GP? Make me up one, and name your price.

I guess if my digital camera was a lil better you might have more of an idea of what this throttle body looks like. I dont see MUCH room left for improvement, considering the sponsors throttle body picked up 6rwhp LESS than mine, but hey, I could be wrong.

Thanx to all who replied

Sounds like you've got some good business going already. I might do some playing around with the Shaner TB. I like what you did to the blade, and the post. You ought to go find a flowbench and hook it up, and try some more porting just to see what happens.

Rumor has it that a certain Firehawk will be getting one this week The port is very nice and looks as good as any other ported TB I have seen to date.

Congrats Ron.

Well, Im sorry they locked your thread. As I mentioned above, if I WERE to become a moderator I would sell these. Since Im not, Im just making a post and helping others who port their own and more importantly, Im showing gains from a good throttle body. I didnt disclose any names on the other one I tested. If this were to get locked I would definately think things are a lil out of hand with the sponsor program. Im simply showing a dyno comparison of a stock Vs modified throttle body. Maybe you were actually advertising or something?

Fenris you post in such a manner that we perceive you as trying to sell TB's thru the board. Do me a favor and stop coloring outside the lines.

Nice gains.

Our sponsors sell a lot of their powdercoated TB's and folks are buying a nice consistent product with a warranty.

My home ported TB works nice but if it had issues I would have no warranty and would be out a TB.

Interesting gains, not out of the ordinary for a ported unit on a 409 cube engine!

Now so many things can happen on a dyno, if the TB is lined up on the opening wrong you can kill power, if the sponsor TB was dynoed first and then yours it will skew the results too since the ECU is learning the higher cfm and adding fuel. Some reasons why a TB shootout is very hard to pull off effectively.

Basically I would hope that a ported TB would pick up at least 9rwhp on a 409. A 409 needs so much more airflow than a stock LS1 (18% more with just cubes, 50+% more based on HP which is basically airflow) You could easily see 9rwhp on a stock engine too if it was done right.

BTW when you mention a price you are advertising. Just porting the TB is only 1/3 of selling them to people.

There is one thing I would have done differently on this test. Just after recording 484 RWHP with my home ported unit, I would have quickly swapped the sponsor ported unit BACK on and dyno again. Why? Just to make sure the extra gains weren't due to the engine and drivetrain heating up and/or the PCM learning a bit.

Colonel, I actually did what you are referring to. I started with the sponsors TB, went to stock, then mine, then back to sponsors and back to stock. I have two different sheets with 3 pulls each. Both are consistant.

BTW, all runs were made with a 20 min cool down and a 5 min idle to let the computer compensate.

Bret, I definately didnt say this was a "magical" throttlebody by any means, I just posted what I was capable of. I will be testing this same throttle body on a heads/cam car early next week. I will post results then.

As for posting a price, I didnt mean to infer I would be selling these, only meant thats all it would be worth to me. Im sure yours come with alot more "whiz" to them. Thanx again.

BTW, it wasnt your throttle body I used if it makes you feel any better

FWIW, Ill test on a stock engine as well. I dont see 9rwhp from a stock motor with ANYONES throttle body though. Heck, a lid is only 10 usually and thats the REAL choke point.

Nice results!

One note however:

Did you dyno your throttle body third?

I always find cars make the best power on the third pull for some reason.

Usually when testing we do three dynos for each with cooldowns in between
