Default Help car keeps blowing fuel pump fuses

Posted this in fueling and injection with no replys so im going to give it a shot over here

Ok the car is a 98 Z. It has a walboro 255. I had the problem with the hose poping off the pump last week. I fixed it and it ran fine for like 3 days untill last night when the car shut down. I thought it was the same problem but it wasnt. I couldnt hear the pump prime so I checked the fuses and the fuel pump fuse was blown. I replaced it and as soon as I would turn the key to the run position it would blow the fuse. Any ideas, common problems/pinch points for the wiring.

Short in the pump circuit or the pump itself.

Remove the relay and ohm out the circuit (test for continuity);

unplug connector from pump, ohm out the pump (test for continuity);

did the pump overheat...?

Pump shouldnt have overheated I had over half a tank. Let it sit for a half hour before I tried the last fuse. How would I ohm out the circuit or the pump. I suck at electrical ****. Thanks for the reply

I think you might have jingle-jangle'd some wires around and they are shorting out inside the tank. I'd definatly not power it up again untill you yank the pump out again and check stuff out.

You need a wire diagram showing the pump relay, pump and wiring in between the two;
pull the relay, observe the pinouts labelled in the relay socet and match them up with the wire diagram;
with a digital multimeter, set the DMM to "continuity beeper" mode and probe the ground pin and the pump circuit pin in the realy socket; if the continuity beeper beeps, then you got a short; also check like this between the pump circuit pin and chassis ground;

this will just tell you if you have a short downstream of the relay;
if the DMM beeped at the relay, then you have to disconnect the connector at the pump and probe it for continuity; if the DMM beeps, then the pump or its subwiring is shorted; if DMM did not beep here but beeped at the relay socket, then the short is between relay and pump.

Process of elimination.

If you don't have a DMM, you could use a test light, connect one end to battery positive, probe the pump ciruit pin in the relay, if it lights you have a short to ground; same thing at pump connector.

I had the same problem last year. But it was out side the tank. I routed the wire and it get cut on a heat shield. I still had to get it towed home. $75 dum *** tax paid.
