Default Starter issues...need some troubleshooting help...(LONG)

History, swapped out ETP Heads, Nitrous Cam and Kooks SS Headers...went back to Stock Heads, Z06 cam and Manifolds. The car has sat for 3months from begining of the swap til now. Went to start the car, and it cranks slow with the starter gear engaging the flexplate, but not retracting when letting off the key.

Took starter off and had it tested at Autozone, failed every test. Purchased new starter, installed and same thing. Cranks around 150rpms, howling and gear fails to disengage the flexplate.

Checked all fuses, and relays, swapped the IGN and BATT relays, no change. Checked the 3 ground wire gang on the back of drivers head, all present and tight. Checked all other grounds, passenger block by starter = good, front drivers rad.support = good, drivers side block by alternator = good.

Engine is getting an orange spark, not a nice bright blue. I contribute this to the slow cranking action, well under 300rpms. Tried a new 550cca battery, no change, orange spark, cranks slowly and fails to disengage flexplate.

Engine is getting fuel. Checked FP 58psi, rock steady. Checked plugs, wet, smells like gas.

Just removed the intake to verify the wiring is all connected, all is connected, and rechecked the grounds on back of drivers heads, still tight.

One odd thing to note, I went to put the window up, turned the radio on for ***** n giggles, turned the key off (door was closed) everything worked. Opened door, everything still worked, radio and winow went up or down. KEY REMOVED and door open still had power retention.

I am lost on this one. Never had these kind of issues.

Thanks for any help.

Charlie
