Default Nick Williams 90mm installed... Awesome! PICS ADDED!! Slight warning as well...

Hey everyone! I just recieved my NW 90mm TB yesterday. I installed it in the freezing cold wind because fall sucks. haha. Anyway...My first impressions were that its a really nice unit. Very well made. And the throttle return spring felt stronger than the FAST. Guess I should mention this was to replace the FAST piece....

Anyway install was a breeze. Once I found my allen heads. Garage is a mess right now. One snag that I ran into... The outter diameter of the NW where the intake bellow would hook up is smaller than the fast. FAST uses a lot more material out there it seems. When I went to hook my intake elbow to the NW...it was wayyy too big. Luckily I had a piece of hose that was right in between the two sizes. I used it as a sort of bushing or spacer. Im wondering if Im the only person that experienced this...??? Anyways thats the "slight warning"... Make sure you have some stuff to deal with intake issues after install. It was a bigger deal to me since my engine is in a swap car...and I need an elbow, then maf, then reducer, etc etc. It needs that tight connection at the TB.

Ok...first fire it wouldnt run. Had to go in with the Idle screw a tad. Second fire, it started right up, and the idle settled out at 950 after a couple minutes of it figuring itself out again. Gave it a few revs, all seemed fine, so it was time for a test drive.

Before with the FAST, when coming to a stop...as soon as the clutch went in and the RPMs dropped, it would stall. Unless I played with the gas pedal. Or sometimes the idle would go down to 300 back to 1100 down to 400 back to 1000 until it settled out. Now....solid as a rock. Idles drop right down where they are supposed to be and stay there. I only had it stumble one time, and I had to MAKE it stumble. It recovered much quicker than with the FAST piece.

Ok...I have pics..but they arent uploaded. Ill post them tonight when I get home from work. Next step is to order the Z06 MAF sensor and try to get squeezed into Rapid for a tune!! I cant wait for that because I know it needs it...

Justin

Another story of the FAST sucking....lol probably "sticking" would have been the better word. Lets see some pics!

I totally forgot to upload them last night. My garage is a nightmare after the motor swap...so I was up late freezing trying to clean it up some so the car can go in for the winter months.

The funny thing about the sticking was...it happend when I was driving the 99 Z28 around. Like back and forth from the storage shed. Had to stab it to make it idle again. But that never happened in my 87... I never had it stick...but it caused idle issues like crazy.

Ill post pics as soon as I can.

Pics as promised. I only got a few. It was cold and I wanted to get it done.

Pic of the NW Pre-install...

The junk..

No idle hole..

NW installed...

All buttoned up...

As I said above...only had to turn in the idle screw just a hair for it to catch and idle on its own.

Glad to hear you had an easy install. Will probably get even better with a tune, like you said she needs it. Good luck, curious to hear about the results.

Yeah Im hoping for a kick in the pants with a tune. Definetly some driveability...maybe some MPG...but I really want the thing to run as good as I think it can...

awesome looking intake and throttle body. Always nice when an install goes easier then you are expecting it to.

mmmmmm, billet. As far as your idle, some issuse can be solved by the " idle screw" (not sure on the name). But tuning the IAC helps a lot too. I'm not sure of what TB you were running before, but if anything I know i felt a great difference in throttle response with just a ported TB. Hope you see soome gains with the tune.. Nice setup, and great looking TB

Thanks for the compliments guys. Car got attention before because I always keep it clean. But now it really gets people looking. I was at autozone the other day with the hood up checking my oil, and I had to explain things to like 4 different guys as they walked up.

Car is definetly packing some heat now...and even more so hopefully after my tune. Its plenty to keep me occupied if I get heavy with the skinny pedal. I havent really raced it much. Kind of waiting until Im sure everything is good to go. But I have surprised my share of people on the highway. Its funnnn...

Idle issues are all but solved. It only dips to the point that it wants to stall every once in awhile. Thats if its revved up and I hit the clutch to come to a stop or something. I think the lightweight flywheel lets the RPMs crash so fast that by the time the IAC knwos it has to do something its too late. But like I said, the NW solved most of those issues.

As for the tune...Im definetly looking for more power. Drivability is there. Im putting close to 18mpg on average...and thats with me having fun every so often. So Im just looking for alittle more
