Default Oil filler neck removal...and breather part#

I want to replace my oil filler neck with an open breather. Does anybody have a part # for one that is a direct fit?

Also can the oil filler neck be removed without taking off the valve cover? Does it just twist off?

How do you feel about doing this to reduce pressure in the valve covers? Do you think it will help reduce the amount of oil blowing through the PCV lines?

I want to know how to get the damn oil filler neck off, too. I had to mess with one for fifteen minutes before it finally just came off. There's a little tab on the valve cover that it snaps on to, but it wasn't real clear to me how to get it off. I twisted and yanked for a while and it finally came off.

Thumbs up

I know this is an old post but I wanted to add to this so the next person that searches for this info will have what they need. YES, their is one big tab that goes into a grove but their is also another smaller plastic tab that has to be pushed from the inside with some sort of small tool like an icepick, depress this tab and it will free the filler neck, see photo below.

I broke mine taking it out. FYI the oil cap fits right in to the vavle cover and locks and everything.

So does that mean the valve cover has to be taken off or what exactly? I've also been meaning to get one of these aftermarket breathers.

YES, its easiest if done from the underneath side, but if you knew exactly what you were looking for and had the right tool (ice pick, mechanics pick, etc) you might be able to do it from up top but it is way easier to see it if the valve cover is off, IMHO.

Ya, I guess I realized it fit under a STB but I'm really concerned about it fitting under my FRC. A better picture would really benefit this thread...

Another revival but Im doing mine now and I know about the tab inside but it just wont come out...Do you just reach inside and prevent it from digging If anyone is interested, I can take some better pics. The cover is off right now and Im putting on a breather cap I made myself...

Default broke oil tab

Hey CF,
I am new to the whole LS F body hobby and I got a little forceful removing the oil fill cap, heard a pop and It popped out. I cannot find the little tab so I am guessing it is in the valve cover. Does this tab pose any danger to the engine? I know its best to try and find it but ... There is so much stuff in the way.

personally i would pull the valve cover, it really isnt that terrible. the plastic probably wont cause any damage but i wouldnt want it potentially clogging an oil passage or something
