Default Cleaned / Oiled Filter....Idle Problems???

I just cleaned and oiled a friends k&n filter for his 01 ss. After reinstalling the idle was jumping around / low oil pressure / engine sounded like it wanted to turn off. When I lightly touched my hand on his filter lots of oil came off. Im assuming he put too much oil on the filter and now the oil is on the maf? So I just need to reclean everything...use less oil and resinstall? Hopefully this didnt cause other problems? A fast response would me much appreciated.

Correct. Too much oil and it is interfering with the MAF readings.

Get rid of the POS K&N filter and put a normal paper filter in there. Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner too.

K&N FTL!

None. A lot of guys prefer the paper to K&N because of the oiling issues.

well actually to comment on that, I was just at my local auto parts store which had a little k&n exhibit. Had a ping ball which was proppeled by a fan through a filter which was interchangeable (paper vs k&n). with the paper the ball went halfway up the tube and kind of went down then up down then up.....the k&n however pushed the ball alll the way to the top of the tube and held it there with force (it actually kept hitting the top of the tube)....this was a manually operated device so it couldnt of been favoring either filter.....thats my 1st hand experience.

Wow! not. I've seen that too. Still gives you 0 gains at the track and lets dirtier air in your engine tho. Paper ftw.

that when air is pushed through the k&n filter the flow was more efficient providing more air in the tube.

Thats quoted from this guy.....and if i remember right we have more displacement then mazda speeds.....and we do have v8's no???? lmao

K&N's relevance to smaller displacement engines, most of which have air filters of huge CFM capacity as compared to the engine's needs, is marginal--they are aware of this which is why in nearly all of their literature you will see cubic inches used as a measure of engine displacement, and large block V-8's in the testimonials and sample calculations.

If used properly, a K&N works great. You guys must be n3wbs.

You only oil the bottom of the filter, the side that points at the ground. The air flowing though will pull the oil in the rest of the way. People get too happy and hose them down when it's not necessary. I've been sold on K&N's ever since my motocross/dirt track days. I've had my K&N filters completely clogged shut with dirt/mud/dust without a SPEC on the inside. Done it dozens of times, no problems.

Besides, a white paper filter would look like **** under my clear lid.
