Default LS6 manifold swap question

Did a search but didn't find anything.

What mods are necesasary to install an LS6 manifold on an 02 LS1. I've heard that you have to modify the EGR system but not sure what you have to do.

A 2002 LS1 would have came with an LS6 manifold from the factory.

No need to install one

How would I know for sure. I was under the impression that only a few came with the LS6 manifold.

lol noooo all 01-02 cars came with LS6 intake manifolds. the easiest way to tell is that theres no EGR provision on the top toward the front of the intake manifold

You can know for sure because all 2001 and 2002 F-Bodies came with the LS6 intake manifold from the factory.

If you really want to though, you can look at the casting number on the side of the manifold (below the fuel rail, drivers side, center) and see that it is one of the following numbers: 88894339, 88890524, 88890523, or 12561184. All of those sorrespond to the F-Body LS6 Intake manifold.

Hope that helps.

Re'
Only a few came with the LS6 BLOCK, perhaps the statistic you were thinking of?

Crap. Well I guess not all 01-02 cars came with the LS6 manifold. The number on mine didn't match any of those numbers. Car is a 02 NHRA edition Firebird built June of 2002.

Yes, all 01-02 cars came with the LS6 intake manifold from the factory. I think he was just giving you a few examples of part numbers that correspond to the LS6 intake manifold. I'm sure there are others. Did you buy the car new or used? I don't know why but maybe somebody previously swapped an LS1 intake manifold on there. What part number is on yours?

The number on the manofold is 12573572.

I only know the cars history from mid 04. I was owned and not modded by a friend of my sons. It only had 5k on it when he bought it and apppeared to be stock with only a drop in K&N filter.

That is definitely an LS6 intake manifold. Do a search on here with that part number and see what you come up with.
