3 Hours For Spark Plug Change
I HAVE A 2000 SS CAMARO THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED. ON MY FIRST SPARK PLUG AND WIRE CHANGE IT TOOK ME ONLY 3 HOURS. NOT BAD CONSIDERING THE PLUGS AND WIRES ARE 83,000 MILES OLD, ORIGINAL. I'M SURE ALOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THE PROCEDURE BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE THE WEBSITE THAT HELPED ME TACKLE THIS HORRIBLE JOB. I FOUND IT AT WWW.INSTALLUNIVERSITY.COM. ITS AN ELEVEN PAGE PRINT OUT AND SAVED ME ALOT TIME AND HASSLE. I'M SURE I COULD DO IT AGAIN IN UNDER 2 HOURS NOW THAT I HAVE THE FIRST EXPERIANCE OUT OF THE WAY.

3 hours isn't too bad. You'll get faster as you do it more.
Good job.

This Is The Only Car I Have Without Headers And I Can Definately See How They Will Help In The Plug Install. By The Way I Had To Take Several Phone Calls, Because I Was Working On My Car At My Business. Take Away The Phone Calls And It Would Have Taken Me Around 2 Hours.

It took me over 6 hours my first time over two days but I was really taking my time and paying attention to what I was doing. My buddy and I changed the plug on his '02 in 2.5 hours (and that includes removing the 5th bolt on the passenger coil pack). I thought that was pretty good considering we were switching off with one 3/8" ratchet. He has Pacesetters too with block-offs for EGR and AIR which kept getting in the way as well.
I figure 2 hours for my next plug change and I have AIR still hooked up.

When I had a '94 Z28 back before I knew much about cars I went to a Firestone shop to get my plugs changed and the mechanic quoted like $200 and said he would "rather get kicked in the junk than change out a camaro's plug wires"! I then went and bought a Haynes manual and figured it out on my own. It probably took about 6 hours but well worth the learning experience. I can do my T/A now in about an hour maybe a little more.

I Bought A "thru" Socket Set From Lowes And Used It As A Last Resort To Get The Fifth Coil Rail Bolt Out, 10 Seconds Later It Was Out. Kobalt Thru Sockets, Its A Small Set For Around $60 It Was Worth It For That Bolt Alone.

The first time I change plugs on my ls1 I followed the instructions in installuniversity and it too me 6 hrs. The other two times it took me 1hr 45 mins since I left the coil packs alone and took the no.8 plug from below. Getting the wires off is the biggest pain. I need to change mine soon since I used NGK 55's.

First time was pretty easy with the header install. The second time I went in it was prob an hour with cleanin and regappin for the driver side. The passenger side takes half as long.

Plus, this was his first plug change on the car so I was letting him do most of the work. He's like me though. He likes to take his time as well.
Next time on my car, I will be rushing it because I'm much more comfortable with the change.
