Default Thunder Racing headers vs. Hooker LT's

Thunder Racing headers vs. Hooker LT's, which is a better product ? Is it true that the Thunder headers are a Grott. knockoff? If so, I can assume they would make more power than the Hooker? What are your opinions. Anyone have the Thunder Headers?

Coach has the Thunder headers. I would take Thunder Racing's headers over my Hookers. I'm going for some Kooks next, though.

Dang, must be nice to just buy a new set of headers because you're sick of the hookers. Just playin' man

Yes, I changed my Hookers for a set of Thunder Racing headers. I like the way they fit and sound. I only made 10 passes with them so far(trans problem, soon to be fixed with a A3). I believe they make more HP. I would go with the Thunder Racing Headers!

Good luck,

Coach

Thanks

They dont have air tubes, the 02's are in a better location, they make more HP, and they are just like the grot headers. Most of all they are from one of the best companies in the LS1 WORLD.

What does everyone think about PPC headers, Y-pipe, and CATS? I believe they are Grott's as well.

I just bought them... waiting to be delivered.

I read that the TR headers and the QTP headers are both based off the Grotts design..? I like the QTP Y-pipe with the Flowmaster collector and love the electric cutouts.... So wouldn't the QTP Y-pipe bolt right up to TR headers? I know that QTP port-matched the header flanges too. Did Thunder do that?
And why does QTP claim to have the only equal length header? I thought Thunder, Hooker and SLP are all equal-length headers.? Or are they tuned- length? Whats the difference?

Grotts = Grottyohann (abbreviated.) It's the brand name.

Does anyone have dyno numbers proving that the "grott design" headers make more power than hookers? And what is the design difference anyways?

I have the Thunder Racing Headers, I got one of the first batches TR had for sale. I swapped out the SLP Long Tubes for these. These headers were a dream to install. Plus no AIR tube to worry about. I bought them ceramic coated, I love the way they look. I can't compare the performance to the SLP because I added the TR headers when I did my new motor. All I can say is I Dyno'd 404 RWHP/445 RWTQ with a TR 231/224-111 GTP S2 Heads and TR Headers, with a TH400 tranny, steel drive shaft, and 12 bolt rear.

I have installed SLP, MAC and Hookers in the past and I would recommend these headers over any other right now.

The QTP, PPC, Thunder Racing Header and Kooks are all copies of the Grott which was originally built by Tubular Automotive.
There are NO equal length headers for the LS1 F-Body. From all the headers I have measired the Hooker/Jet-Hot/Edelbrock are the closest but still have about 7.25 inches of error.
Equal length is a header that is within + or - .5 inch for all primary tubes. Some people will say that it can have up to 1 inch of error and still be equal length and some say that it has to be within .25 of an inch. It just depends who is doing the work. A lot of work and experience is necessary in order to calculate the correct length primary tubes and often no benefit is realized unless you regularly run open headers (where the tuning effect of headers really comes into play).

The idea behind tuned length is that if calculate the bends and the length of the primaries then you can determine when the exhaust gasses will enter collector so you can begin scavenging on the next cylinder to start pulling in the fresh intake charge.
