3" cut out worked for me. It's slightly bigger than the I-pipe, but not by much. We had to expand the I pipe a little bit to make it easier to weld. I might have it backwards, though... I can't remember which was bigger at the moment..
But for sure the 3" cut out fit.
BTW, I put mine right before the rear axle, under the back passenger seat.
