Default Is your guys air filter loose?

I've got a TSP lid on my car with a K&N... been on there for a couple years now... I've noticed when you put your hand under the filter and push up it lifts upwards... anyone else notice this on their setups? I'm worried about sealing issues... but it's been that way for so long i'm guessing it's not a problem... maybe when the car is running there is so much suction that it seals itself????

http://www.kandn.com/instructions/33-2118.pdf

Even the instructions say the gasket must be applied to the airbox for sealing. Guess the gasket is a poor excuse for them not making a filter that just drops in. I guess i cant really complain though because atleast they gave me the gasket.

I've had the K&N's leak even with the gasket. You need to really install it correctly for it seal. JMO

trust me... it's installed correctley... it just lifts up in the rear of the filter when I slide my hand under the airbox and push up at the back of the filter... it's like there is too much space and not enough gasket, hence the need for one... sounds like I just need to get a new intake...

that volant is really starting to look good to get rid of all these sealing issues...

The neck of the lid might be hitting the radiator support:

Think it might help to try what I did and use something to space the filter up so it seals against the lid or is it too much of a gap?

Do you have the filter tray that comes with the filter,it sits in the bottom housing and holds the filter up off the lower housing allowing filter to fit and seal as it should. This tray came with my KN and another brand filter I bought. These trays are not needed for paper filters and did not come stock.

Loose the K&N.. the gasket on the K&N is very short and in order for it to actually seal you will need to go to the hardware store and get a thick gasket to place on the lid to complete the seal that K&N did not do right in the first place. I've not ever seen a K&N filter for an F car come with the gasket in the box although the last one my buddy bought for his car did talk about installing it in the instructions.

I tried a K&N on my car and always got leaves and crap on my MAF and noticed a black film which I guess is probably form the oil coming off the filter and the fact that K&N's let a lot of dirt through. I replaced it with a paper filter and have not had any problems and lost nothing at the track with a Paper filter vx K&N.

good to hear...

well... looks like I have 3 options i'm considering...

2 lid options (holley powershot filter) - however have heard of sealing issues on just about every lid
MTI Lid
SLP Lid

1 other option - no sealing issues, but expensive...
