Round muffler after Hooker Y-pipe...Anyone try it??
Anyone try installing a Round muffler (say 5"or 6") directly after a Hooker Y- pipe? I tried a search but didn`t find anything. I was thinking about a DynoMax 6" (3" in/out) Ultra flow with a turn down. Anyone got some pics of something on these lines? Thanks.

I used to have a 12" dynomax bullet muffler right after the y-pipe and out thru a cutout. Why are you wanting to use a 6" instead of a 12" or 18"?

I recently cut the merge off my Hooker Y-pipe, since I didn't exactly like how it necks down to a single 2-5/8" ID pipe.. Also, where the two pipes are joined, one pipe protrudes directly into the flow path of the other.. I cut through the pipes half-way into the union, and "ported" the junction so it's more a true Y. Then I formed the end of a 3-1/2" pipe into an oval, flaring the end a tad to fit up well. I didn't install a muffler, but it DID help with the raspiness of the system. I run the 3-1/2" to a 3-1/2" cutout, then neck it down to 3" into the stock catback.
I can take pics if anyone is interested.

Re: Round muffler after Hooker Y-pipe...Anyone try it??
Thanks for the replies. Ragtops right. I figured a 6" Dia. would knock down the db`s enough to get me by with as few street miles as I put on the car. Plus, getting rid of the cat-back and cut-out would help shed a few lb`s. I`m not sure if I would have enough room to mount one directly after the Y-pipe but figured worst case I could run a 3" pipe along the same path as the I-pipe back toward the rear end where the floor pan opens up a little to allow room for a 6" round muffler and a turn down. My car is not lowered and the 26x11.5-16 ET Streets help get a LITTLE more ground clearance. What do you guys think?
