what *sounds* like a belt squeal
00 Ls1 out of a WS6, into a 97 240sx
engine has been in for 6ish months now, have countless track events on it and never had an issue till last weekend
above ~180 degrees (coolant temp) i get what sounds like a belt squeal that i cannot pinpoint. ive stethoscoped the tensioner pulley, and all around the top of the engine because it sounds like its coming from everywhere, not like the front, side, etc but can NOT find it. the serpentine belt is perfect, and all my pulleys spin freely and have no visible problems.
i replaced the idler pulley today, still makes the noise.
sometimes after shutting the car off (while its making this noise) it will slow but continue to happen for several seconds after the engine is off.
i have no performance change, and once im out on track i cant hear it anymore (dont know if it goes away, or if the car is just too damn loud haha)
any suggestions?

tight tight as in wheel wont turn no more but even then I can't remember if it makes noise or not, but besides that replacing the PS pump made all the noises go away. low fluid, belt, bad ps pump, bad idler pulley are just some things off the top of my head that would cause a squeal type noise it's just a matter of which is it lol

I still vote for a fan or possibly water pump / thermostat. You mention that it's temperature related, and when you turn off the car it continues for a few seconds, well the fans will freewheel down after the power is turned off and could make that sound. As for the water pump / thermostat. After you turn off the motor, you still have water movement through the pump and housing since there isn't anything to technically stop the flow of water. So after you shut off the motor and water pump, the water will still circulate for a few seconds. The impellor on the water pump should free wheel, so that might be where it's coming from.
