Emissions control removal
i know this issue is repeated a lot but some threads dont make it clear. so here is my question. If i disconnect the A.I.R. pump fuse and disconnect the E.G.R., from my 98 LS1 will it effect the tune(factory spec)? I dont care about the service engine soon light cause i have no cats. I just want to know if the car will run better, worse,or the same.

Removing EGR will not affect the tune, but the tune will -need- to
be altered. This is because without the EGR diluting the air charge
you have a more potent, faster burning mixture that can't stand
the excess spark timing that was put in there to compensate the
EGR effect. You will probably have light- and part-throttle ping.
If it gets to be a habit then your adaptive spark (knock learn) will
drive you toward the low octane table and you'll suffer reduced
advance even in areas where you have no EGR activity now.
All EGR really costs you is clutter, a fitting to break off on any
"emissions headers" and a little airflow obstruction. If you just
pull and cut down the intake manifold fitting, you'll eliminate the
obstruction part of it.
