cutting off mac ball flanges {any h.p gains}

has anyone actually done this and seen a hp gain or is it just

I think i'm gonna try it hope it takes out some rasp as well!!

I don't think anyone has done this in a while. It was popular back when there wasn't a other "full" long tubes available.
