Default Serious Serious problem!!! PLEASE COME IN

http://images.cardomain.com/member_i.../254692_44.jpg

I was trying to get the passenger header off, I was wiggling it around trying to get it off (by myself, my friend wasn't there) and as I was wiggling it all of a sudden I saw a few sparks come, scares the $hit out of me

I quickly looked to the top of the car and as you can see in the picture, the rusted thing (passenger side header) looks to have slightly cut that red wire next to it (the red wire also has a black thing on one end and foil wrapped on the other end.....Also note I forgot to disconnect the battery, I know stupid me

Anyhow I feel like throwing up right about now what the hell did I do, after these headers, any serious mechanic work is going to a pro.

Oh Jesus I really hope it was nothing serious and I can just replace the wire or put electrical tape on it

Anyhow I did manage to get the stupid passenger header off

I would just wrap the cut part with some electrical tape, I've done this before on a starter wire that chaffed on the chassis and the car is still working.

calm down , you didn't mess up ( well not as much as you think )
it's hard to tell from the picture but it seems you have one of the wires exposed. just take a closer look , it the wire is melted somwhere from the header heat , just re insulate it and cover it with some hi temp insulation. if it is cut , just re attatch it ( prefrably solder it) and use hi temp insulation around it.

no the best case scenario: your hrader just arced on the positive terminal on the starter and most likely no damage is done.

I would get a new cable, you dont want to mess around with that battery cable, it goes directly to the battery unfused, if it happens to ground out you can set your car on fire. play it safe and replace it, it should be no big deal since the header is out

Get some heat shrink tubing.
Disconnect battery
Remove wire terminal from starter
Slide heat shrink tubing over terminal up to cut damaged wire
Heat the tubing so it seals the cut shielding
Button it up.

That should do it. Cost you about $1.00 and will last forever.

BTW- I used to live in Cliffside park.. on Lemoine Ave by the 7-11.

Lemoine Ave in Cliffside Park?
Maybe they changed it since I was born because its Palisades Ave now....But it does turn into Lemoine once you hit Fort Lee.

Funny thing is there is a 7-11 on Lemoine Ave in Fort Lee and a 7-11 on Palisades Ave(same road) in Cliffside Park, which takes me less than a minute to get to on foot. Its right around my block.

Small world!

BTW shrink wrap sounds like a damn good idea. I work with shrink wrap a lot too.

Just have to find some that will fit that wire, and then use a blow dryer....BTW blow dryer works very good on this, takes a little longer than a heat gun, but usually comes out better!

So what does everyone think I should get? Shrink wrap the wire, electrical tape, replace the wire, high temp insulation wrap.

I just went looking at www.homedepot.com and www.lowes.com and don't see anything I could use.

Thanks again everyone for your help, sorry admins for double posting in external and internal.

Obviously I already have electrical tape, but if you guys recommend me do something else please tell me where I can get it.

I would definitely put some heat shrink tubing on the damaged area. Black plastic tape will have a limited life in an area where heat and water will be present. FelPro sells a bunch of different heat resistane sleeves for many applications just like yours. They come in different types of material to shield wires or metal tubing rrom heat or chaffing. I'd put the heat shrink on first then the FelPro on top of that and you won't have to worry about it again.

Check you fuse pannel also just to be sure nothing blew. Also besure when you re install your header that your starter wires are safe and clear of the pipes.
