cold air unduction question

Default cold air unduction question

last night i was just about to order the slp cold air induction and then looker under the car and noticed that it is going to be right before the radiator so i was just wondering how the radiator gets air if the cold air induction is right infront of it, any information would be greatly appreciated

The Radiator gets air from the front rubber air dam that is lower than the opening of the SLP.
If you are worried (Which you shouln't) you could get a larger dam from RKSPORT.
Before you get SLP, Check FAST TOYS one ------>

SLP CAI does shroud the radiator a fair bit. It
blocks a 1' wide section of the face so air has
to come in vertically, behind it, in a fading
cross-section. When I mounted my tranny cooler
I put it on the front face and between this and
the CAI it just looked too choked off to suit me.

Being that close and that stagnant by the radiator
this stainless piece gets a bit toasty. I didn't
believe it until I felt it myself. Adding CAI to
my SS raised my inlet temps about 2 degrees, used
to see 1-2 above ambient and then saw 3-5 above,
though I did eliminate the air slot as any sort
of restriction.

I eventually hacked mine with a cutoff wheel and
pop rivets, to make it draw air from above (in
the nose air pocket), removed the lower face
entirely elsewhere, and kept the upper plate as
the support for the portions of the nose cooling
ducting that didn't get cut out during the install
originally. There is now no interference with rad
airflow.

I guess I should take some pictures but that would
require taking it back off again.

I couldn't say how badly the FTRA or SSRA shroud
the radiator, never seen these up close.

I have had the SLP CAI installed on my car for about a month or so now have not noticed any heat problems. I live in S'West Oh and it has been in the upper/low '80s/90's for about the same time with high humidity. I can tell a real difference in the way the car breathes; especially in the morning with the cooler air that the faster you go, the more you can "fell it breathe".
I have ne regrets (so far) with my purchase. I can't compare it to the FTRA or SSRA.
BTW: SLP's instruction that is included is really a joke. It is a copy of a copy from a low end copier and the wording was barely readable.

This isn't a problem with the Super Sucker. It angles away from the radiator and it's made of plastic so it won't heat soak.

I have the SLP unit and did see a slight increase in gauge temp on a hot (90+ degree) day. The install is a PITA but I could feel the gain. No problems with sucking water into the filter although the filter gets dirty very quickly.

Overall I'm very happy with it.
