what is the advantage of stepped headers?

Default what is the advantage of stepped headers?

like the title says ^ how exactly do they help flow? what type of application would benifit from these? why get stepped as opposed to having the whole header be the larger size?

Basically it's to get the high RPM power of a larger tube header without losing the lowend power of a smaller tube header.
