what is the advantage of stepped headers?

what is the advantage of stepped headers? like the title says ^ how exactly do they help flow? what type of application would benifit from these? why get stepped as opposed to having the whole header be the larger size?

Re: what is the advantage of stepped headers? Basically it's to get the high RPM power of a larger tube header without losing the lowend power of a smaller tube header.
